Carlisle Key at Westminster: Raising Our Voice for a Youth Homelessness Chapter

On a bright day in May 2025, Carlisle Key proudly stood alongside organisations from across the UK at Westminster to support the campaign for a dedicated Youth Chapter in the government’s homelessness strategy.

Travelling from Carlisle, a staff member and one of our young people joined over 150 organisations and 40 young people as part of the growing Youth Chapter Collective. We were there to ensure young people facing homelessness are not forgotten—calling on government to commit to real, systemic change.

The day was vibrant and powerful. We joined in chants, listened to speeches, made placards, and stood with 12 MPs who came to hear directly from the young people most affected. The atmosphere was one of solidarity and determination—with biscuits and banners alike.

We want to thank New Horizon Youth Centre for their fantastic planning and for welcoming us to be part of this important day.

The centrepiece of the day was a giant book—filled with real stories, data and ideas from young people—delivered to Parliament, and soon to be presented to Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner. This book symbolises everything we’re asking for:

- Prevent youth homelessness before it happens, with early support in schools, families and local services
- Provide housing and tailored support that meets young people’s unique needs
- Help young people build independence, with fairer pay, access to education and employment
- After the rally, we explored London, visiting a museum and Buckingham Palace—marking a first-time experience in the capital for our young person.

Being part of this national campaign means we’re not just reacting to youth homelessness—we’re helping rewrite the narrative.

We’re proud to have represented Carlisle and to continue standing up for a future where young people are designed in, not left out.
